Meet Mx. Lauren Johnson
Helping you trust yourself again through specialized virtual OCD therapy.
Licensed Professional Counselor • OCD Specialist
Based in Lynchburg, VA • Serving VA, FL, SC & VT
Finally, a therapist who gets it.
If you’re exhausted by intrusive thoughts, endless self-doubt, or feeling like you have to explain yourself just to be understood, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to keep carrying it by yourself.
I’m Lauren (he/him), founder of Neuroqueering Counseling Services. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist with lived experience of OCD, I understand how isolating it can feel when your own mind pulls you into endless “what ifs,” making you question yourself, your memories, and what you know to be true.
My role is never to “fix” you. I’m here to help you understand the patterns that keep OCD doubt going, reconnect with your own experience, and build trust in yourself again— while creating a space where you don’t have to mask, over-explain, or shrink yourself to be accepted.

Why I Do This Work
Living with OCD changed the way I understand doubt, fear, and self-trust. I know how convincing OCD can feel when it pulls you into questioning your thoughts, memories, intentions, or identity.
For many people with OCD, the search for answers can become exhausting. The more you analyze, review, and try to resolve the doubt, the more questions seem to appear. Discovering Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) changed the way I understood this process— not by teaching me to fight my thoughts, but by helping me recognize how OCD creates doubt in the first place.
That understanding shaped the way I practice therapy today. I specialize in helping you recognize OCD’s patterns, reconnect with what you already know, and rebuild trust in yourself.
My lived experience gives me a deeper understanding of OCD from the inside, while my clinical training allows me to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to each person.
What Working Together Feels Like
Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in curiosity. You don't have to arrive with the "right" words, know exactly where to begin, or convince me that your experiences are real.
Together, we'll work to understand the patterns keeping you stuck, recognize the stories OCD creates, and strengthen your ability to trust what you already know through your own experience and everyday reasoning. I'll support you while also gently helping you see through the obsessional doubt that has been pulling you away from yourself.
I strive to create a space where you can show up authentically— without masking, over-explaining, or worrying about being judged. There is room here to ask questions, laugh together, celebrate progress, and reconnect with the version of yourself that OCD has made you question.
How I Work
My work is grounded in I-CBT, a specialized, evidence-based approach to treating OCD. Rather than focusing on the content of intrusive thoughts, I-CBT helps us understand the reasoning process that allows obsessional doubt to take hold in the first place.
Together, we'll learn to recognize when OCD has pulled you away from what you already know through your own experience and into imagined possibilities that feel real and urgent. As you begin to see OCD's patterns more clearly, you'll strengthen your ability to trust yourself again.
Every person's experience of OCD is different, so therapy is never one-size-fits-all. I'll meet you where you are, tailoring our work to your unique experiences, strengths, and goals while helping you build lasting confidence in your own judgment and everyday reasoning.
